Terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and Overreacting for the Overreacting app and this website. Installing or using the app means you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not use the app.

1. What Overreacting is — and is not

Overreacting reads chat screenshots and reports which of 31 named communication patterns it finds, with the line of the chat that triggered each one. It produces an opinion about messages.

2. Who may use it

You must be at least 13 years old, or 16 where local law requires that age, and old enough to enter into this agreement where you live. You may not use Overreacting on behalf of someone else or to analyse a chat you obtained without permission.

3. Subscriptions and billing

Reading the community, voting, publishing your own chat and writing answers are free and do not require a subscription. A subscription is what has your chat read and scored against the 31 patterns, and it unlocks all answers on every thread and your score history.

• Prices are in US dollars and may differ in your local store and currency.
• Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google account at confirmation of purchase. There is no free trial.
• A subscription renews automatically unless it is cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and the renewal is charged within 24 hours of the period ending.
• Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID or Google Play account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
• Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their own policies; we cannot issue a refund for a store purchase ourselves.

A subscription includes a hard limit of 7 scans per week. Posting, voting and answering are free and are not counted against it.

4. Community rules

Publishing is free and is always your own decision. When you publish, these apply:

• Blur everything identifying. Names, handles, faces, phone numbers, email addresses, workplaces, schools. The blur is burned into the image before it is posted.
• Do not post a chat to expose a specific person. No doxxing, no naming, no “this is my ex, here is their profile”.
• No sexual content involving minors, no threats of violence, no incitement, no harassment campaigns, and no content that is illegal where you are.
• No spam, advertising or link farming, and no impersonation of another user.
• Answer the chat, not the person. Answers are opinions on messages.

5. Moderation and reporting

Every published chat is checked before it becomes visible to other people, automatically and by hand. Anyone can report a post or an answer from inside the app, and you can block another user so their posts stop appearing for you. We remove content that breaks the rules above and may remove a device’s access entirely for repeated or severe breaches. Objectionable material is removed as fast as we can act on a report.

6. Your content

You keep ownership of what you upload. By publishing a chat you give us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display it inside Overreacting and on the public link for that post, for as long as the post is up. That licence ends when you delete the post or erase your data.

You confirm that you have the right to upload what you upload, and that publishing it does not break the law where you live.

7. Liability

Overreacting is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that a pattern reading is correct, complete or suitable for any decision you take about a relationship, a person or a legal matter. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Where a consumer law in your country gives you rights that these terms cannot override, those rights still apply.

8. Changes, termination and contact

We may change these terms; material changes are announced in the app before they take effect. You can end this agreement at any time by erasing your data in Settings → Your data and deleting the app. We may suspend or end access for a breach of section 4.
